Step Up Your Workout with a Spin
Tired of the same old fitness routine, while longing
for the great outdoors? Spinning, or indoor cycling, might be the
perfect means to increase your cardio endurance, energy level and
strength while training for outdoor cycling.
Indoor spin studios, with booming surround sound and
the compelling high-def visuals, simulate an outdoor cycling
workout. The instructor will guide and inspire you through the
various phases, from warm up to increasingly demanding climbs and
challenges, to the cool down. While you can pedal at your own pace
and resistance, the group experience – bonding with others each step
of the way – is especially motivating.
Bahram Akradi, founder and CEO of Lifetime Fitness,
has been an avid spin and cycling enthusiast for the past 12 years
who has personally inspired countless others through club classes
and events. “Cycling is an excellent, lower impact form of
exercise,” he said. Because it often occurs in groups, cycling also
brings a social element that yields a positive and fun workout.”
Bahram recommends finding a cycle club, such as
those offered at Lifetime Fitness. “Learn to cycle indoors first,
because getting to know proper cycling techniques is key,” he said.
“Additionally, it’s important to get matched with the right cycle
group as you progress.
“Typically, A, B and C-level groups are offered to
align riders’ varying skill levels, according to Bahram. Matching
your skill level to the right group makes sure that you are
challenged at the appropriate level,” he said. “Most importantly,
you will have the fun and, therefore, the likelihood that this
becomes a lifetime, healthy way-of-life sport for you to enjoy
dramatically increases.”
“I find cycling to be an exhilarating and spiritual
experience,” says Bahram Akradi, founder, chairman of the board and
CEO of Lifetime Fitness, who often leads classes and events at his
clubs.
